Writing ?= Text

What is multimedia writing?
To begin with, after the exhaustive discussions of what multimedia writing is, my interpretation of what “multimedia writing” has become askew. The fight for whether a picture or documentary can be considered to be writing is not well defined and the context in which it is used in this class blurs the lines even further. We have discussed multimedia writing enough in class to understand that no one answer is correct. My opinion has become a mixture of both sides of the arguments. My definition of multimedia writing is this: Any form of idea transmission requiring some form of actual writing to produce.
What are multimedia texts?
I think multimedia texts are any physical or electronic documents (this can include books or DVD cases etc) with a recognized language written on/in it. I do not include pictures (no text) and videos (without subtitles) in this because they specifically do not have any text presented to the viewers. Of course, multimedia text is also up to interpretation and its definition can be just as fuzzy as multimedia writing’s is. I personally cannot see how to understand “Multimedia Text” in any other way, but the world is full of people who think differently and can see things form different angles.
How/are they different?
Multimedia writing is definitely different from multimedia texts. Writing can be either a verb or a noun but because we are comparing it to texts, I am going to assume that we are using the noun form of writing. My definition of writing differs from text because I see writing as any form of idea transmission that requires writing/text to create. A text specifically has to have characters/pictographs visible on/in the finished product. Therefore, all text is writing but not all writing is a text.
