Final thoughts on multimeda writing

Before making my last post I thought deeply on the topic and came to a final decision on “What is multimedia writing?”. My answer to “What is multimedia writing?” has not really changed at all since my last post on the topic. Taking into account my previous definition of multimedia writing, or more precisely my belief that it is only a subdivision of multimedia composition, I would say that multimedia text and multimedia writing are the same thing.

First Multimedia Writing, now Multimedia Text...

I am still going to say that for something to be considered multimedia writing, some sort of writing must be going on. I don’t mean writing in the sense of process of creating, or whatever people like to say to stretch definitions. When I say writing, there must be some text. Sure there can be pictures to accompany the text, but what the writing actually is, is the text itself. I really don’t have much else to say that hasn’t already been said over and over in this class, so I’m not going to ramble on about it.

Texts of thine multimedia

We have covered multimedia writing over and over again, so i think we are all familiar with it. Quick recap, multimedia writing covers more than just written text, its a combination of many forms of media to convey they idea. So, you are writing using various forms of media. Merriam-Webster's Online dictionary gives several definitions for the word "text":

Writing multimedia

Despite all the debating we've done, I still have a similar outlook on the multimedia writing question I've always had. Put simply, I believe there are two different interpretations for writing: one literal, one expressive.

Multimedia Text, eh?

In my understanding, Multimedia Text is still just that: text. Despite the fact that multimedia writing is supposedly an aggregate of all sorts of different types of media, the word "text" implies text. Words, letters, things you read: text. Text is not video. Text is not music. Text is not a dancing bear cartoon. Yes, "text" is supposed to be a metaphor in this context (see what I did there?

Writing is a verb, Text is a noun

The difference between multimedia writing and multimedia text is obvious: writing is a verb, referring to the action of forming symbols using a writing utensil, and text is a noun referring to symbol on some medium. When you write, you create text. Basically what this reading response is asking is the difference between a noun and a verb, in that a verb is an action and a noun is a person, place, or thing. There is no complex compare and contrast arguments between these two elementary meanings.

Why Didn't I Think of That?

I really love flipping through the D.I.Y book and just looking at all the creative eye-catching ideas that people have produced to advertise their product or service. I also like how it's grouped for different kinds of materials so if you need to search for some specific kind of item, it is really easy.
